Bryce Salazar: SOLOPART

As my friend Niko Nakamura’s injuries started to make him fade from being the main attraction that I pointed my camera at. Bryce Salazar rose to the occasion to fill the void. I only filmed with Bryce for the one season but his consistency and effort that year will forever impact my vision of what’s possible when you set your mind to something. Bryce and I had found a groove for working together in silence. Some of my best memories are of just the two of us pulling up to high security spots at 3AM and getting in and out with a clip with little to no fuss. Much of what I learned from filming was how to keep your spirits high despite the circumstances, but what I learned from Bryce was how to just flatline through highs and lows with a sense of indifference.

When we traveled to Calgary together we had an amazing session one night. Bryce got his favorite clip that year that night. His “Closer”. in my entirety of filming snowboarding I can proudly say I only ever lost one clip amidst the chaos of traveling and filming. Unfortunately it was that clip. I might never really forgive myself for that. But Bryce did, another moment of learning from my peers through filming. What keeping a level head looks like when working with imperfect people.

Thanks, Bryce.
